Derek Baker, Permanent Secretary at the Department of Education visits Strangford College

Derek Baker, Permanent Secretary at the Department of Education, visited Strangford College, Carrowdore today.

Mr Baker was greeted by Shaughan Dowds (Head Boy), Stephanie Emes (Head Girl), Mr Ray Murray OBE (Chair of Board of Governors), Mrs Clare Foster (Principal) and Dr Aidan Lennon (Deputy Principal).

He enjoyed a short tour of the school with gymnastics display and musical interlude, followed by a visit to Technology, Science, Art and RE Departments where he was able to join in lessons and chat to the students.

Mr Baker then took time to talk to the School Council Representatives about their views of the College and a panel of parents to share their perspective on the College and its future plans.

Mrs Foster, Principal of Strangford College said; “We were delighted to welcome Derek Baker to our College today. Strangford College is a growing school with an exciting new build project well underway and scheduled for completion in 2021. We are committed to Integrated education and providing a highly successful school experience for all our young people. We were pleased to have the opportunity to showcase some of the great work of our students and discuss our plans for the future.”
